ESG & Sustainability
Helping to create a better future
We are Net Zero carbon for Scope 1 & 2 emissions
Commitment for Net Zero Carbon for Scope 3 emissions
Committed to sustainable construction. Committed to a sustainable future.
At Glencar, our ESG (Environmental Social Governance) approach is designed to help us to create a positive impact on the world in which we operate.
Our commitment to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles and sustainability is paramount. We firmly believe in responsible business practices and continuously strive to reduce our environmental impact by embracing eco-friendly construction methods, sustainable materials, and energy-efficient technologies.
We are also dedicated to fostering a safe and inclusive work environment for our employees, actively participating in community initiatives to enhance social well-being. Additionally, we prioritise strong governance practices, ensuring transparency, ethical behaviour, and accountability throughout our operations.
Our collective efforts reflect our unwavering dedication to ESG and sustainability, benefiting our business performance and the communities we serve.
Carbon Reduction Plan
Our ESG timeline.
Our ESG strategy focuses on the following key themes:
Net Zero Carbon
To achieve net-zero emissions in construction, we need to reduce emissions in all three ‘scopes’ by using cleaner technologies, sustainable materials, and efficient practices. The Net Zero measurement scopes are defined in three categories:
• Scope 1 Emissions: Direct emissions from on-site sources in construction, like construction equipment and on-site energy use
• Scope 2 Emissions: Indirect emissions from off-site energy production, such as grid-supplied electricity used on construction sites
• Scope 3 Emissions: Indirect emissions throughout the construction process, including materials, transportation, waste, and our business travel
Glencar achieved Net Zero Carbon for Scope 1 & 2 Emissions in 2025, and we are aiming to be Net Zero Carbon for Scope 3 Emissions by 2045.
Glencar also achieved Planet Mark Certification in 2022, measuring our baseline scope 1, 2 & 3 GHG emissions according to this certification.
We have also implemented a Carbon reduction plan, based on year-on-year reductions. As well as developing our own carbon reduction plan, we continue to support our customers in delivering Net Zero Carbon Ready buildings, with a number of Net Zero Carbon projects delivered.
Glencar’s Scope 1, 2 & 3 emissions.
In 2024/25, we have reduced our corporate Scope 1, 2 & 3 emissions from 6 tCO₂e per employee to 5 tCO₂e per employee compared to the previous financial year, demonstrating a reduction of 16% which exceeds our year-on-year target of 10% reduction.
This was achieved though a combined effort of eliminating the use of fossil fuels in our corporate offices by opting for renewable electricity supplies, encouraging employees to purchase zero emission vehicles through the Electric Car Scheme and operating remotely where feasible.
Furthermore, we’re continuously making the effort of phasing out the use of diesel on our construction sites by integrating Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil (HVO), using renewable electricity and Photovoltaics for temporary power.
This enabled us to achieve Net Zero for Scope 1 & 2 emissions by the end of 2025 and will enable us to achieve Net Zero by 2045 for Scope 3 emissions.
Supporting a Circular Economy
We work with our Clients and stakeholders to deliver Circular Economy commitments through minimising resource use, driving down waste, reviewing the adaptability of materials in their selection, as well as their impact on Whole Life Carbon.
On our projects we always set specific targets based on construction waste resource efficiency benchmarks, which prioritise recycling and maximising the use of recycled, repurposed and responsibly sourced materials.
Biodiversity
We are committing to 10% net gain target on all our projects.
We will also be delivering a target scheme in our local area of St Albans to deliver the same for the local community. This also supports our volunteering and social enterprise goals which form part of Glencar’s Social Value strategy.
Supply Chain & Responsible Procurement
We are working with our supply chain to drive improvements in delivery of ESG performance for responsible and ethical sourcing, BREEAM, NZC, Circularity, Social Value, and Governance).
Without robust engagement and alignment with our value chain, we will be unable to deliver on these goals. To that end we are assessing our key suppliers to benchmark their ESG capabilities, continuously measuring their performance and prioritising working with those who most closely align with our ESG position and expectations.
