Glencar appointed by Extra MSA Group as main contractor for new Warrington Motorway Service Area
10th November 2025
Extra MSA Group has appointed Glencar as the main construction contractor for the new Warrington Motorway Service Area (MSA) at Junction 11 of the M62
Delivery Scope
Extra MSA Group has appointed Glencar as the main construction contractor for the new Warrington Motorway Service Area (MSA) at Junction 11 of the M62 — a major development that will deliver modern motorway facilities, support local employment, and promote sustainable growth across the region.
The multi-phase design-and-build contract includes extensive earthworks, drainage, and ground improvement to establish the development platform. This is followed by the installation of utilities, highways, and site-wide infrastructure to prepare for the construction of the main Amenity Building, parking areas, and external works.
Glencar will also manage enabling and access works for the fuel filling station and coordinate future landscaping packages. The hybrid fuel facility will feature a retail store, refuelling forecourts for cars and HGVs, canopies, EV chargers, and supporting infrastructure including parking, lighting and cycle spaces.
The first phase of works will also include the diversion of Silver Lane Brook and the creation of a new peatland habitat zone, together with wider landscaping and site circulation infrastructure.
Once complete, the service area will provide over 530 car parking spaces, 105 HGV spaces, 16 coach bays, 15 caravan spaces, and 15 motorcycle spaces.
Driving environmental and social value
Glencar will play a central role in achieving Extra’s sustainability and social value ambitions through its responsible approach to delivery and collaborative expertise. The company’s focus on ESG-led construction will ensure the Warrington MSA sets new standards for environmental performance and community impact.
The scheme incorporates major ecological enhancements, including the creation of a peatland habitat and restoration of Silver Lane Brook to improve biodiversity and strengthen climate resilience.
In parallel, Extra MSA and Glencar’s social value programme will generate measurable benefits for the Warrington community — including working with social value specialists such as Ahead Partnership to create new employment opportunities, investing in local SMEs, and forming skills partnerships with Birchwood High School, Gorse Primary, Warrington & Vale College, and Cheshire Skills Bootcamp to inspire future construction talent.
