As Glencar enters its second decade, the financial position is the strongest in the company’s history — with £440m already secured for the year ending 30 September 2026, a revenue forecast exceeding £500m, and margins running above industry benchmarks.

Founded in 2016 by Eddie McGillycuddy and Chris Gleave, Glencar now employs more than 350 people across the UK and Ireland and has delivered or is currently delivering 251 projects across more than 25 million sq. ft of space, spanning new build, refurbishment, repositioning and fit-out across industrial and logistics, data centres, life sciences, film studios, ports, civils and infrastructure, and specialist urban development.

The business has confirmed it has achieved Net Zero carbon status across Scope 1 and 2 emissions, following sustained investment in renewable energy procurement, low-carbon site operations and supply chain engagement. A Scope 3 Net Zero commitment is in place for 2045.

Eddie McGillycuddy

Founder and CEO, Glencar

From day one, our focus was on building a disciplined business in sectors where certainty of delivery really matters. We’ve grown by being selective about the work we take on, investing in the right people and maintaining strong governance as we’ve scaled. Entering our second decade with £440m secured and a £500m revenue forecast reflects the strength of that approach — and the trust our clients place in us.

Milestone projects

Key schemes delivered or in delivery during the past decade include:

  • The reconstruction of Ocado’s Andover Customer Fulfilment Centre — demolished and fully rebuilt within 12 months during the height of the pandemic, with a live operation maintained on the upper site throughout
  • The Catalent biologics manufacturing facility at Harwell Campus — the UK’s first dedicated facility of its kind, delivered as the national emergency vaccine production hub in direct collaboration with government and regulators
  • The Moderna Innovation and Technology Centre at Harwell Campus — a second major life sciences scheme at the same campus, reinforcing Glencar’s credentials in one of the UK’s most important research clusters
  • Baytree Nuneaton — approaching one million sq. ft, BREEAM Outstanding certified, with a cross-laminated timber office structure setting new benchmarks for sustainable logistics development
  • SEGRO V-Park Grand Union, Wembley — one of the first multi-storey urban light industrial schemes of its kind in the UK, across six storeys
  • The LHR21 data centre for Vantage Data Centers at Park Royal — a technically complex, large-scale digital infrastructure scheme in inner London
  • Ealing Studios — transformation of the UK’s oldest continually operational film studio, established in 1902, into a future-ready production campus, achieving BREEAM Outstanding and Net Zero carbon ready in operation

The contractor has also secured a position on Peel Ports Investments’ £750m general and marine construction frameworks, extending its civils and infrastructure capability into the ports sector.

A changing market

As it marks the milestone, Glencar’s founders have reflected on a decade of change in UK construction — sharing their observations on the durability of the industrial and logistics sector, the transformation of building design and sustainability expectations, and the structural headwinds the industry continues to face, including planning delays, post-Brexit labour constraints and financial market uncertainty.

“The market has evolved dramatically over the past ten years. Industrial buildings are no longer simple metal boxes — sustainability, integrated office environments and architectural quality are now baseline expectations. At the same time, growth in digital infrastructure and specialist sectors has raised the bar for technical coordination and programme control. We recognised that shift early and invested in the capability to deliver it.”

People

Over the course of the decade, Glencar has completed more than 5,050 internal training courses, supported over 50 colleagues through degree apprenticeships and trained more than 200 team members as mental health first aiders. Around 13% of the current workforce sits within trainee or apprentice roles.

The Glencar Foundation coordinates the company’s charitable and community activity, channelling fundraising across the business into causes chosen for their tangible local impact. Since its launch, the Foundation has supported team-led initiatives ranging from boxing events to endurance challenges, with Glencar matching contributions to maximise the effect of every pound raised.

The company’s year-end financial results for FY2024/25 will be released in the coming months.
