About This Project

Project Overview
The LON01B2 project forms the next phase of Pure Data Centres' Brent Cross (LON01) campus in North London, extending the hyperscale development by a further 23,186 sq m and bringing total campus capacity to 90MW.

The new 70MW facility builds on the existing 20MW Building 1, which is already operational and leased. Delivered within a live operational data centre campus, the scheme will provide critical digital infrastructure to support growing hyperscale cloud and AI demand.

The development represents a significant investment in digital infrastructure, supporting the continued growth of cloud computing and artificial intelligence technologies while incorporating industry-leading environmental initiatives. A defining feature of the project will be one of the world's largest living wall installations, spanning approximately 7,400 sq m of the building façade.

Project Requirements
Pure Data Centres required a delivery partner capable of constructing a technically complex hyperscale data centre facility within a live operational campus. The project demands careful coordination with operational infrastructure, adjacent construction activities and ongoing fit-out works, while maintaining stringent standards for quality, safety, programme management and logistics.

The scheme also requires the integration of significant sustainability and biodiversity enhancements, reflecting Pure DC's commitment to delivering digital infrastructure that contributes positively to its surrounding environment

Glencar’s Role
Glencar has been appointed to deliver the West Cold Shell for LON01B2, with responsibility for the construction of the substructure, superstructure, envelope and roofing works. The project is being delivered within a live operational campus environment, requiring close coordination with neighbouring phases and ongoing operations across the wider development.

Technical & Delivery Challenges

Delivering a hyperscale data centre facility within a live operational campus presents significant technical and logistical challenges. The project is being undertaken alongside an operational data centre facility and adjacent construction works, requiring careful sequencing, programme management and stakeholder coordination.

The delivery team must manage multiple interfaces across active construction zones while maintaining safe and efficient site operations. Coordination between the West Cold Shell works, the operational Building 1 facility and the East Cold Shell fit-out requires detailed planning and robust communication across the wider project team.

The scale of the development, combined with the specialist requirements of data centre construction, demands a highly controlled approach to quality, logistics and programme delivery throughout the project lifecycle.

Sustainability & ESG
Sustainability forms a central element of the LON01B2 development. The project will incorporate one of the world's largest living wall installations, spanning approximately 7,400 sq m of façade area and incorporating more than 750,000 individual plants.

The living wall has been designed to deliver meaningful environmental benefits, including biodiversity enhancement, noise attenuation and improved air quality. Located adjacent to the Brent Reservoir Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and the North Circular, one of the UK's lowest air quality corridors, the installation will contribute positively to both the local ecosystem and surrounding community.

The scheme reflects Pure DC's commitment to balancing the delivery of critical digital infrastructure with responsible environmental stewardship and long-term sustainability objectives.

The Outcome
Upon completion, LON01B2 will increase total capacity across the Brent Cross campus to 90MW, creating a major hyperscale data centre hub capable of supporting growing cloud and AI infrastructure demand.

The project will deliver a technically advanced facility within one of London's most significant digital infrastructure developments, while also establishing a benchmark for integrating biodiversity and environmental enhancements into large-scale data centre construction. Through careful planning, coordination and delivery, the scheme will support Pure DC's continued expansion while contributing positively to its surrounding environment and local community.
