Glencar is delivering the design and construction of a new 101,805 sq ft single-storey warehouse unit at Martland Park, Wigan, for Hillwood UK. The development includes first-floor office accommodation, external works, underground drainage and comprehensive landscaping.
The high-specification facility has been designed to support modern industrial and logistics occupiers, with a strong emphasis on sustainability, operational efficiency and long-term adaptability.
Glencar’s Role
Appointed under a Design & Build contract, Glencar is responsible for full project delivery, coordinating the design team, supply chain and all on-site construction activities through to practical completion.
Scope of Works
Warehouse & Office Construction
Construction of a 12-metre haunch height warehouse with integrated first-floor office accommodation delivered to Cat A standard.
External Works & Infrastructure
Delivery of service yards, car parking, underground drainage, attenuation and associated landscaping works.
Enabling & Groundworks
Comprehensive groundworks and infrastructure works to prepare the site for vertical construction and long-term operational performance.
Sustainability & ESG
The scheme is targeting BREEAM Excellent and incorporates photovoltaic panels, electric vehicle charging points and cycle facilities. Sustainable material selection and energy-efficient building services are integrated to enhance environmental performance and reduce long-term operational costs.
Technical & Delivery Challenges
Coordinating groundworks, attenuation and infrastructure works alongside the superstructure build required careful sequencing to maintain programme efficiency. Close collaboration with the wider consultant team and supply chain has been key to achieving programme certainty.
