Glencar Achieves Net Zero Carbon for Scope 1 and 2, Commits to Scope 3 by 2045
16th February 2026
Glencar has achieved Net Zero carbon for its Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions in 2025, delivering on a core commitment set out in its Sustainability Strategy and Carbon Reduction Plan
The milestone positions the contractor among a growing cohort of UK construction firms aligning operational performance with national and industry-wide decarbonisation targets.
Exceeding Operational Carbon Targets
In our annual carbon reporting, Glencar confirmed total Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions of 576 tCO₂e for the 2025 calendar year. This represents a reduction of over 20% in absolute Scope 1 and 2 emissions compared to the previous year, reflecting sustained operational change across both construction sites and corporate offices.
To achieve Net Zero for Scope 1 and 2 emissions, the business prioritised direct operational reductions before addressing residual emissions through certified carbon offsets aligned with the Verra standard.
Key drivers included:
- HVO Mandate: Mandating Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) across all construction sites, reducing generator emissions by up to 90%.
- Renewable Infrastructure: Deployment of photovoltaic (PV) arrays and battery storage solutions on selected projects.
- Renewable Energy Procurement: Transition to renewable electricity supply across corporate offices and controlled site supplies.
Sustainability Aligned with Commercial Performance
The achievement comes as Glencar approaches its tenth year with a secured forward order book exceeding £425 million and repeat business consistently above 80%.
The company continues to embed sustainability within procurement, governance and delivery frameworks, ensuring environmental performance is integrated with commercial discipline.
Alongside decarbonising its direct operations, Glencar is delivering buildings aligned with the UK Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard and has achieved upfront embodied carbon reductions of up to 40% against design-stage baselines on industrial and logistics projects.

The Road to 2045: Tackling Scope 3
With Scope 1 and 2 emissions reduced, Glencar’s Net Zero Carbon Delivery Roadmap now intensifies its focus on Scope 3 emissions – primarily embodied carbon within materials and supply chains.
Future priorities include:
- Monitoring embodied carbon across all projects and setting appropriate limits
- Increasing the use of low carbon materials, integrating material reuse and sourcing locally
- Engaging teams and supply chain to improve carbon literacy

As the construction sector continues to face increasing regulatory, investor and occupier expectations around carbon performance, Glencar’s achievement marks a significant operational milestone – and a foundation for the next phase of decarbonisation.
By aligning commercial growth with measurable environmental performance, the business aims to support clients in delivering lower-carbon assets while contributing meaningfully to the UK’s transition to a Net Zero built environment.
